Blackboard Ultra Base Navigation Guide for Students and Faculty

Overview

On May 18, 2024, Blackboard will be updated from Learn Original to Ultra Base Navigation. While Blackboard courses themselves will remain the same (with a slight color scheme change), this update significantly changes navigational components between courses, such as the landing “My Institution” page, as well as provides new, consolidated areas for viewing and managing courses and grades, as well as introducing an activity feed that provides updates.

This article showcases what will change and what will remain the same after this upgrade, and demonstrates several basic functions and actions for both students and faculty on both the new and old interface.

NOTE: The changeover will occur between 6:00AM and 9:00AM on Saturday May 18, 2024. If you are logged in to Blackboard at this time, you will not lose any data created, however, you will not be able to see several of the new menus and components until you have logged out and logged back in again after the changeover has been completed.

The below 30-minute video and resources will familiarize Students and Faculty with the changes that will be made during the May 18, 2024 Blackboard upgrade. There are several demonstrations within this video on how to use various tools and functionality within Blackboard. For instructors, this includes creating announcements, course contents, assignments, assessments, accessing the grade center, and performing grading on assessments. For students, this includes locating and completing assignments, tests, and discussion boards, and how to check grades. This video also includes a step-by-step guide to the new “my institution” page, covering all of the new areas for both students and faculty.

The below 2 and a half minute video focuses on how to access and navigate the new "Courses" area on Blackboard Ultra Base Navigation, highlighting the new dynamic course search bar and showing how to sort and filter courses for both faculty and students.
